Introduction
Movement Grace
A blog that includes thoughts, information and observations about physical movement, dance, muscle changes and non-verbal expression. I hope that you will begin to ’see’ movement more clearly as you read these posts.

Christmas Parking
I was writing in my other blogs here a bit earlier and forgot to write in this one. Silly me. I will ramble for awhile here, and then go on to other things. It’s nice to just write without having a particular subject in mind. I had a taste of Christmas shopping crazies in the parking lot tonight. I couldn’t find my usual set of parking spaces near my local Kinko’s. It didn’t bother me particularly, but it did seem like there were a lot more cars watching to see if I was going to give up my space or not. Fortunately I have a compact car, so I snuck into a small space at the end of the line of larger cars. It was very snug next to an SUV that took up quite a bit of space. Fortunately the SUV was gone by the time I returned to my car. I didn’t think that it would be too hard to back out of the parking lot, but I’m never really that comfortable when I’m parked near a larger car, especially near an SUV.
Snow Movement
Have you ever tried to walk in knee-deep or lower snow? I have. It isn’t easy. It’s quite aerobic to say the least. Not too mention wet, cold and well, I think you can figure out the rest.
I don’t make a habit of walking in the snow, especially here where I live. But, I did do a little bit of it in Oregon, during my college years. Needless to say, I much prefer to sit inside near a warm and cozy fire, drinking some tea and chatting with friends, studying and watching the world outside, through the nearest window.
I’ll be moving around a little bit as I work during a jewelry event today. The best part of the day is when the event is finished and I am on my way home. It’s especially nice if it has been a busy event.
I was selling jewelry at an event on Saturday night. I was very tired. Not because of the event, but because I rushed my preparation for the event, leaving several “to-do” lists to the last minute. Yes, if you read my business blog, you will find that I discuss procrastination quite a bit. It’s one of the worst habits a creative person can have, unless they are in a brainstorming mode. So, I found myself tired when I was standing up. I didn’t stand easily, while others looked fine. Sometimes it was noticeable. No, I don’t drink for many reasons, so that wasn’t the cause, but I’m sure that a few people thought otherwise. As I said, I was very tired. I’d tried a new approach to packing my set-up, finding that it was a bit heavier than I liked and used a lot of energy packing and unpacking before the event began. Well, I won’t be doing that again. I wrote some lists of what “not to do” and what “to do” the next time I participate in a similar venue. Some of my solutions will become second-nature immediately, and others I may need to remind myself to use at my last event of the year. I’m happy to declare, that the rest of the event went smoothly. I was able to meet some new vendors and greet a few familiar faces.
Here is a list of other places in my life where movement is not always so obvious but it is happening:
My heart pumping (pulse — I would definitely notice if this stopped!)
Decision-making (emotional heart, spirit and intellect)
Active Listening (Temporarily putting away my views about a situation to listen to someone else’ view)
Blood Circulation (I would notice if this stopped!)
Where air circulates from (beyond a fan or heater)
Where and when the body regularly replenishes skin cells (I would notice if this were not happening)
If I don’t stop and take a ‘walk’ break when I’m working on the computer, then I start to feel achy or restless. I like working at my computer, because I’m usually writing or researching. I love to research just for fun. But, my eyes tire out easily, even with reading glasses and my hands/wrists, etc. experience overuse discomfort, so I must remind myself to take more frequent breaks. It wasn’t my usual style in the past. I used to type for a long time, basically until I was very tired and cranky, because I wanted to finish what I had started, especially when I was writing an article or updating a web site. I don’t push myself as hard as that anymore. I will admit to pushing a little more than I should, because it’s an old habit. But, I know if I do that, I will regret it. I will need to rest my hands for a bit before either returning to the p.c. or working on some other activity. How do you take care of your hands and eyes when you work at your computer?
Did you know that vitamins can effect muscle movement? I didn’t, until a few years ago, when I was feeling generally lousy and wanted some answers. My doctor took some time to look at my chart, discovering that I was low on some important vitamins and minerals. He gave me a few recommendations and said that I would begin to feel better in about two months of regularly taking my vitamins and minerals. He was right. Recently I slacked off and the same ‘lousiness’ came back. What do you know? I need to start my regular regimen again. Just a disclaimer, this information is not shared as the last word on vitamins and muscle movement. I am not a licensed doctor, and don’t wish to be considered one. I’m sharing this incident with you because it was a powerful and helpful learning experience for me. I’m also sharing it to remind myself that practicing regular self-care is very important for me. It makes my life go much smoother. Remember to take care of yourself!
